We just got back from our first mini roadtrip with our (almost) one year old! I found a Groupon for a hotel in Traverse City right on the water and we just HAD to go. Traverse City is absolutely beautiful this time of year and they have so many delicious choices for food and beer. Oh, and I needed to recharge my batteries to get my creative juices flowing again.
Anyway, I am going to present to you four apps that made our roadtrip with a baby a much smoother ride.
Disclosure: I am not being paid to endorse these apps. I just thought they were great and would like to spread the word with you!
Apple Maps: Yup, I am an Apple girl. I love this map app more than any other navigation app out there (so far). This app has been notoriously more accurate than my overly priced Garmin and has never led me down a questionable route like something you would see on one of those Wrong Turn movies. What makes this app even more awesome is that it is already included on my phone--I love FREE. In addition to navigation this app also includes restaurant and shopping locations along your chosen route.
Yelp: I am a total millennial in the sense that I love and respect other people's opinions, especially when it comes to food and drinks. Before our sweet baby vacationed with us, Justin & I would just walk around and try the first thing that looked "good" or "cool." Now that our darling baby has joined us, we didn't want to take the chance of going to a bad restaurant or have a super-long wait. I Yelped our entire trip and found the reviews of others super helpful! This app helped make our dining experience more enjoyable and delicious.
DISH Anywhere: Yeah, yeah, yeah...I am sure you all saw this coming. But, I couldn't mention super-awesome roadtrip apps without reminding you guys how handy the DISH Anywhere app is. I thought that I would be able to catch up on an episode or two of Grey's Anatomy, but nope. We used our DISH Anywhere app to play a few episodes of Mickey Mouse ClubHouse because our sweet boy was getting pretty antsy after 2 hours of riding. This app allows you to watch live and recorded TV right on your phone. Oh, and unlike other TV providers, the DISH Anywhere app is FREE! Call Justin at 231-788-2922 to chat more about DISH, the Hopper & other techy stuff ;)
Roadtrippers: Whoa, why have I not heard of this app before?! You put in your destination and Roadtrippers will find you tons of cool places along the way. Whether you want to find local dive bars, national parks, hotels, or whatever, this app will find it all for you! We didn't use this app a whole lot because our trip wasn't too far, but we did find a brewery off the beaten path thanks to Roadtrippers. I am excited to use this app in the future when our little guy can handle longer car rides.
I told you four of my favorite apps for a roadtrip, now it's your turn! What are your must-have apps when you load up the car and go? Post your suggestions in the comment box below.
